The Best Fluffy Pancakes recipe you will fall in love with. Full of tips and tricks to help you make the best pancakes.
Maybe I should rephrase that… I love Etsy.
I love the collection of passionate people designing, making, and even 3D printing items for a select group of people who really love their board games. (I also love buying jewelry, cross stitch patterns, very specific glass bits for mosaics, and other random crafting components, but that is another blog entirely.)
Any time I get a new game, and the I think “I love this, but I think it would be even better if..” I got to Etsy and see if other agree with me.
Many times, they do. Someone has already thought about the idea that sorting the components of this game just so will make it easier to set up (I’m looking at you, Quacks,) or wouldn’t it be nice if we had resources that were as solid and tangible as the eggs in WIngspan.
And so I buy them. (We have already established that I am a snobby, bougie boardgamer who wants all the things, haven’t we?)
And that is where I have a little hate. I spend soooooo much money on my games. I love getting the little extras, and when you have a serious board game collection, all those little extras, box sorters, and awesome add ons start to add up.
An even worse thing happens when I dive down the Esty rabbit hole. I find out that no one has made the nicer component that I want, or it isn’t quite as I have envisioned it.
That is worse because then I get crafty. And that tends to be even more expensive. I need supplies. I ordered at least 5 different types of tiny vials for my Guttenberg ink vials until I found just the right ones. And then I did 2-3 rounds of prototypes until I was happy with how I made them, the color, the consistency, etc. Making it yourself is expensive. (But very, very satisfying – check out my blog posts on crafting components if you want to try out a few of my favorites. I’ve done the experimenting for you.)
In the end, I’m going to embrace the love and not the hate. I love that there is a place I can go that allows me to get great ideas, support crazy crafters and artists like me, and make my games better.
Enjoy your shopping and your playing.
Here’s a few of my favorite shops:
- CinderAndEmber, box sorters galore
- StrataStrike, amazing wood boards (including my Azul boards)
- TowerRex, more box sorters
- TopShelfGamer, coins and resources
- BoardGameBoost, for acrylic overlays
There are so many folks creating great game enhancements. Whatever game you love, just run a search and see what wonders you can find.
*Note: None of these Etsy stores have sponsored any of this post, nor have any input on the content. I just shop there.
